The Wearable Landscape is an open science initiative committed to fostering collaboration in the field of wearable technologies. By bringing together a wide range of expertise, the project aims to develop innovative solutions that address both methodological and content-specific challenges in the field. Currently, it is a non-funded initiative, driven purely by the intrinsic motivation of its dedicated project team.

A key focus of the network is to advance the validation of wearables, highlighting the crucial importance of reliable validation processes for assessing 24-hour physical behaviors—including sleep, sedentary time, and physical activity. To achieve this, the initiative centers its efforts on the following core activities:

Soon, researchers, developers, and users will be able to access a centralized platform for information on validation studies and processes. As a first step, an interactive dashboard (in development) will allow users to search for specific validation studies by device, setting, target group, and more. In the next phase, the website will evolve into a living review, regularly updated through ongoing literature searches. Looking ahead, the platform aims to become a central hub for pooling resources related to wearable validation in the scientific community. This could include building a collaborative network for planning upcoming studies, sharing research protocols, receiving notifications, and coordinating efforts in data collection, equipment sharing, multi-site studies, and joint data analysis or preprocessing.

In the long term, The Wearable Landscape strives to:

• Offer an up-to-date, comprehensive reference list of wearable validation studies
• Build a dynamic, searchable interactive dashboard with an expanding database
• Create a cooperative platform for collaboration and resource sharing, including a member area with features such as project matchmaking, offers and requests, and research partnerships
• Ensure sustainable, cost-neutral development of the initiative
